Extractions
Unfortunately, there are times where a deteriorating tooth reaches a point where removal is necessary. We are well-equipped to ensure that this routine process is as painless as possible.
Tooth removal is typically recommended in cases of severe decay or when there's inadequate space in your jaw for wisdom teeth to emerge without causing discomfort or affecting neighbouring teeth.
What to do after an Extraction?
- Do not smoke, vape or drink alcohol for at least 24 hours.
- Try to eat on the opposite side of your mouth and keep to a soft diet.
- Be careful of eating while you are numb, as it is very easy to bite your own lip, cheek or tongue.
- Do not rinse your mouth for 24 hours after the extraction.
- Brush the teeth as normal, but do not brush down into the extraction socket and do not rinse after brushing.
- Once 24 hours have passed after the extraction, start rinsing the mouth 3 times a day with warm salty water or a chlorhexidine containing mouthwash (e.g. Corsodyl).
- If there is any pain or tenderness talk to your dentist about what is the best painkiller to take.
As part of the extraction process, we provide guidance on replacing the missing tooth. Our primary recommendation is dental implants or bridges, and our team can offer further insight into these options.
